Job summary

Lexical Intelligence, LLC, in Bethesda, MD, seeks a Health Scientist to curate complex clinical data and develop analysis-ready datasets for biomedical research.

You will collaborate with clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, data engineers, and researchers, applying healthcare coding systems and data standards to support impactful studies.

A pre-employment background check is required, with NIH DPSAC processing determining start dates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Data Science, or related fields.
• Proficiency in statistical programming languages (Python, R, SAS) and SQL.
• Strong experience transforming complex raw data into analysis-ready datasets.
• Strong foundation in statistics/biostatistics including study design and modeling.
• Experience preparing user documentation and educational materials for researchers.
• Experience developing results for reports, presentations, publications for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Strong interpersonal and project management skills to handle multiple work streams.

Responsibilities

• Curate datasets from diverse clinical data sources including EHRs and claims data.
• Create analytic datasets by cleaning, transforming, harmonizing, and validating data.
• Assess dataset structure, variables, coding conventions, and documentation for research use.
• Develop reproducible data processing and quality control processes.
• Describe clinical datasets with provenance, populations, and limitations for secondary use.
• Create public-facing resources: user guides, data dictionaries, and technical docs.
• Identify opportunities to improve dataset utility and research value.
• Protect sensitive health information in line with privacy requirements.
