Job summary

Unum is seeking a Clinical Consultant who plays a vital role in reviewing and analyzing medical information in cooperation with claims professionals and healthcare providers. This position requires effective communication of complex medical issues and offers a competitive salary range of $53,300.00 to $100,700.00 based on skills, location, and experience.

Job description

Overview

The clinical consultant is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting medical information. Works collaboratively with claims professionals, on-site physicians, and other resources in multiple settings to assess medical information and determine appropriate next action steps. Collaborates with healthcare providers to clarify functional capacity, recovery expectations, treatment plans, and initiates return-to-work plans where appropriate. Delivers exceptional service in every interaction, taking full accountability for a positive experience.

Responsibilities
  • Apply medical knowledge through assessment and synthesis of claim file information and offer balanced conclusions.
  • Communicate complex medical issues concisely (written and verbally) in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Collaborate with internal resources to determine necessary medical documentation to accurately assess file direction.
  • Partner with external resources to establish partnerships, discuss treatment plans, clarify functional capacity, and assess file direction.
  • Provide coaching to non‑medical staff to increase medical knowledge.
  • Operate with a sense of urgency and flexibility to meet a rapidly changing environment while meeting performance standards for quality and quantity of work.
  • Demonstrate a thirst for learning and development of broad business and leadership skills; remain open to diverse ideas, experiences, and maintain self‑awareness of strengths and development areas.
  • Maintain professional certifications, stay abreast of new trends in the medical field, and complete required educational activities.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Nursing and an active RN License (BS degree strongly preferred).
  • 3+ years of clinical experience (preferred).
  • Proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, team environment.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary range: $53,300.00 – $100,700.00, based on skill, location, and experience.
