Job summary

UNC Health Care is seeking a dedicated clinical chaplain at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill to provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff within the pediatric service line, across units including PICU, NICU, and oncology.

This State-affiliated role offers 40-hour weeks, on-site work, documentation duties, and participation in interdisciplinary rounds and committees; ACPE CPE programs are in place, with opportunities to teach and mentor a CPE resident.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent from an accredited seminary.
• Four ACPE CPE units, faith group endorsement.
• Board eligible by the Association of Professional Chaplains. Certification must be obtained within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide the highest quality spiritual care to patients, family members and staff.
• Attend team and unit rounds, participate in service line, department and hospital-wide committees, provide documentation for patient encounters, and back-up coverage in rotation.
• Lead worship services or other spiritual offerings as needed, plan bereavement/memorial events, and teach didactics within the Department of Spiritual Health and Education.
• Mentor a CPE resident and complete administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.

The Department of Spiritual Health and Education at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC is currently looking for a dedicated, passionate, and highly caring clinical chaplain to join the chaplaincy team. The department has robust ACPE CPE and clinical chaplaincy programs. The clinical chaplain will provide the highest quality of spiritual care to patients, family members and the staff in the University North Carolina Children’s Hospital. This position will be dedicated to providing spiritual care to the patients, family members, and staff in the pediatric service line. The chaplain will provide care in all units within the Children’s Hospital and the specialty services which include: Pediatric Intensive Care, Neonatal Critical Care, Hematology/Oncology, Trauma/Surgery, Neurology, Pulmonary, Gastroenterology, and General Pediatrics. The position will include direct patient care and working with a comprehensive interdisciplinary team. The chaplain will attend team and unit based rounds, participate in service line, department, and hospital wide committees, provide documentation for patient encounters, provide 24 hour back-up coverage in rotation with other spiritual care staff members, lead worship service or other spiritual offerings as needed and requested throughout the year, plan and facilitate annual bereavement/memorial events, teach didactics within the Department of Spiritual Health and Education and in the hospital community as needed, serve as a mentor to a CPE resident, complete administrative tasks, and other assigned task according to the spiritual needs of the institution.

Education Requirements

• Master's degree in Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent degree from an accredited seminary or university.
• Graduation from accredited college and seminary with four (4) units of ACPE CPE, faith group endorsement.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Board eligible by the Association of Professional Chaplains. Certification must be obtained within two years of hire.

Professional Experience Requirements

• Prior pastoral experience in hospital setting and/or congregation.
