Farnsworth 4 - Clinical Care Technician

Farnsworth 4 is a 12-bed Adult Medical/Surgical unit at Tufts Medical Center, providing care to complex patient populations across various medical and surgical case types. The primary service line is a Direct Care Hospitalist service, alongside Geriatrics, General Medicine, Pulmonary, Renal, GI, Cardiac, Neurology, Hematology/Oncology, and Orthopedics. We seek compassionate individuals to join our interdisciplinary team to ensure a safe and supportive environment for patients.

This position involves three 12-hour shifts per week on rotating days and nights, including weekends and holidays.

Job Profile Summary

This role provides professional and nonprofessional nursing care services as per physician orders, including basic patient care tasks without requiring an RN or LPN license. It involves supporting patient care under the supervision of physicians, mid-level practitioners, or registered nurses, depending on the unit. The role requires specialized knowledge or skills through vocational education, training, and experience, primarily applied to patient care or scientific/laboratory jobs. It is an experienced role requiring routine problem-solving, interpretation, and communication skills.

Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) certification
  • Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited program
  • One year of related experience (e.g., NA, PCA, CCT, PCT)
  • Experience in acute care settings
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist registered nurses in patient care, ensuring efficiency and patient-centeredness
  • Support activities of daily living, respecting patient dignity
  • Greet and respond to patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Record and communicate clinical data promptly
  • Prepare rooms for admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Transport patients safely and act as a sitter when needed
  • Provide comfort measures and assist with mobility
  • Set up procedures and maintain equipment
  • Collect specimens and perform testing following safety protocols
  • Manage biomedical equipment and report malfunctions
  • Assist with wound care and perform 12-lead EKGs
  • Connect monitoring equipment and care for patient belongings
  • Prime IV tubing and document admission, transfer, discharge tasks
  • Respond to call lights and perform hourly rounding
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting up to 35 lbs, prolonged standing, and patient mobility tasks
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for procedures and computer use

  • Ability to handle confidential information and provide age-appropriate care
