Job description

North 6 is a 30-bed unit caring for adult patients requiring care for cardiac conditions including interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, and heart failure.

This position involves (2) 8-hour shifts and (2) 12-hour shifts per week on rotating schedules (days, evenings, and nights) with rotating weekends and holidays.

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. It includes performing nursing support duties such as providing basic care services to patients without an RN or LPN license. Positions in this role work under the direction of physicians, mid-level practitioners, and registered nurses depending on the unit. It is a clinical technologist role with specialized knowledge gained through vocational education, training, and experience, most commonly applied to patient care and scientific/laboratory jobs. It requires basic knowledge of procedures and tools, works under moderate supervision, and may involve problem-solving and interpretation beyond standard procedures.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) certification.

2. Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited Nursing program.

3. One (1) year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant (NA), Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Critical Care Tech (CCT), or Patient Care Tech (PCT).

4. Acute care experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists the registered nurse in functional patient care, ensuring efficient, patient-centered care appropriate to the developmental age. Performs delegated tasks and reports findings/concerns to the nurse.

2. Provides or assists with activities of daily living, ensuring safety, respect, and dignity. Assists with procedures as directed by the nurse.

3. Greets patients, families, visitors, and staff according to standards; responds promptly to requests, seeking nurse supervision as needed.

4. Collects, records, and communicates patient clinical data to the nurse in a timely manner.

5. Prepares rooms for admission, transfer, or discharge, ensuring equipment readiness.

6. Transports or accompanies patients, acting as a sitter when requested, to ensure safety.

7. Provides comfort measures such as positioning, linen changes, and back rubs.

8. Promotes activity through assistance with mobility and exercises.

9. Sets up for procedures as requested.

10. Cleans and disposes of used equipment following procedures.

11. Collects specimens, performs testing, and prepares specimens for lab.

12. Maintains biomedical equipment, checks levels, and reports malfunctions.

13. Cleans wounds and applies DSD after assessment.

14. Performs 12-lead EKG.

15. Connects monitoring equipment under nurse supervision.

16. Cares for patient belongings and completes belongings list.

17. Primes IV tubing with non-medication solution.

18. Documents admission, transfer, and discharge tasks as directed.

19. Responds to call lights and performs hourly rounding per guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

1. Lifting up to 30-35 lbs, turning patients, prolonged standing, walking, occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.

2. Manual dexterity for procedures and computer use.

3. Visual ability to see screens and reports.
