Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA).
- Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited Nursing program.
- One (1) year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, Critical Care Tech, or Patient Care Tech.
- Acute care experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are general and not all-inclusive; other duties may be assigned:
- Assist the registered nurse in functional patient care, ensuring efficient, patient-centered care appropriate to the developmental age of patients. Perform delegated tasks and communicate findings to the nurse.
- Provide or assist with activities of daily living, ensuring safety, efficiency, and respect. Assist with procedures as directed, using proper body mechanics and maintaining patient dignity.
- Greet patients, families, visitors, and staff according to standards. Respond promptly to requests, seeking nurse supervision as needed.
- Collect, record, and communicate patient clinical data timely.
- Prepare rooms for admission, transfer, or discharge, ensuring equipment readiness.
- Transport or accompany patients to other hospital areas safely and efficiently. Act as a sitter as needed, following guidelines to ensure safety.
- Provide comfort measures such as positioning, linen changes, and back rubs efficiently and respectfully.
- Assist with mobility and range of motion exercises to promote activity.
- Set up for procedures as requested by medical staff.
- Clean and dispose of used equipment following procedures.
- Collect specimens, perform testing, and prepare specimens for lab analysis, maintaining standard precautions.
- Maintain biomedical equipment, checking par levels and functionality, reporting malfunctions.
- Clean wounds and apply dressings after nurse assessment.
- Perform 12-lead EKGs.
- Connect monitoring equipment under nurse direction.
- Manage patient belongings and complete related documentation.
- Prime IV tubing with solutions containing no medication.
- Perform and document admission, transfer, discharge tasks as requested.
- Respond to call lights and perform hourly rounding as per guidelines.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 30-35 lbs, turn patients, prolonged standing/walking, occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, squatting.
- Manual dexterity for procedures and computer operation.
- Ability to see computer screens and reports.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, and understand medical terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle detailed, confidential information.
- Computer proficiency.
- Knowledge and skills for age-appropriate care.
