Schedule

This position involves 36 shifts per week on a day/night rotation, including rotating weekends and holidays.

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. It also involves performing Nursing Support duties such as providing basic care services to patients without holding an RN or LPN license. Positions in this role work under the supervision of physicians, mid-level practitioners, and registered nurses depending on the unit. It is a clinical technologist role requiring specialized knowledge or skills gained through vocational education, training, and experience, primarily applied to patient care and scientific/laboratory jobs. This is an experienced level role that requires basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and vocational or technical education. The role works under moderate supervision, handling routine problems with some need for interpretation or deviation from standard procedures, and involves communication that may require explanation or interpretation.

Job Overview

The Clinical Care Technician works under the supervision of a professional nurse and collaborates to meet patient needs within the scope of the role. This role assists in direct patient care, provides environmental support, and facilitates patient safety on the designated unit and others as needed. The technician must successfully complete and maintain competencies in role-specific skills and promote a patient and family-centered care environment.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) certification.
  • Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited Nursing program.
  • One (1) year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant (NA), Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Critical Care Tech (CCT), or Patient Care Tech (PCT).
  • Experience in acute care settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Assist the registered nurse in patient care, ensuring efficient and patient-centered care appropriate to the developmental age of the patient. Perform delegated tasks and report findings/concerns to the nurse.
  2. Assist patients with activities of daily living, ensuring safety, efficiency, and respect. Follow proper procedures and maintain patient dignity.
  3. Greet patients, families, visitors, and staff according to service standards. Respond promptly to requests, seeking nurse supervision as needed.
  4. Collect, record, and communicate patient clinical data to the nurse in a timely manner.
  5. Prepare rooms for admission, transfer, or discharge, ensuring equipment readiness.
  6. Transport or accompany patients within the hospital safely and respectfully. Act as a sitter as needed, adhering to guidelines to ensure safety.
  7. Provide comfort measures such as positioning, changing linens, and giving back rubs efficiently and respectfully.
  8. Assist with mobility and range of motion exercises to promote patient activity.
  9. Set up for procedures as requested by nursing or medical staff.
  10. Clean and discard used equipment following procedures.
  11. Collect and perform specimen testing while maintaining Standard Precautions; prepare specimens for lab analysis.
  12. Maintain biomedical equipment, checking levels and functionality, and report malfunctions.
  13. Clean wounds and apply DSD after nurse assessment.
  14. Perform 12-lead EKGs.
  15. Connect monitoring equipment to patients under nurse supervision.
  16. Care for patient belongings and complete belongings list.
  17. Prime intravenous tubing with non-medicated solutions.
  18. Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge tasks as directed by the nurse.
  19. Respond to call lights and perform hourly rounding per guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting up to 30-35 lbs, turning patients, prolonged standing and walking, with occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
  • Manual dexterity for procedures and computer use.
  • Ability to see computer screens and reports.
