Job summary

SIU Medicine in Carbondale, IL is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care and support in the Center for Family Medicine. You will work closely with faculty, residents, staff and patients to keep the clinic operating efficiently and safely on site.

Responsibilities include assisting providers during procedures, preparing exam rooms, taking vital signs, performing point‑of‑care testing, and documenting findings in the electronic health record.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least 6 months of direct patient care experience or related college coursework.
• Ability to operate medical equipment and document findings accurately.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers and nursing staff during clinic procedures.
• Prepare and stock exam rooms with supplies and maintain sterility.
• Take patient vital signs and document in the electronic health record.
• Perform point-of-care testing as ordered and relay results to the physician.
• Coordinate referrals and assist with patient flow to improve clinic efficiency.
