Job Summary

Assists physicians in operating room procedures and communicates necessary information and instructions to patients for pre-operative and post-operative care. Participates in being a preceptor of the Athletic Training Residency at Prisma Health Orthopedics. Assists physicians in clinical care, including triage, casting, suture removal, vitals, communication with patients, diagnostic studies, surgeries, and all other additional treatments.

Accountabilities

• Assists physicians in operating room procedures if appropriate credentialing and training completed, and communicates necessary information and instructions to patients for pre-operative and post-operative care. - 30%
• Performs appropriate patient intake for a variety of medical and musculoskeletal conditions, including thorough history, assessment of pain, review of medical history, family history, social history, and medication reconciliation. - 15%
• Coordinates the development and implementation of the athletic training residency mission, goals, objectives, and curriculum, working in conjunction with the program director. - 15%
• Assists physicians in clinical care, including triage, casting, suture removal, vitals, communication with patients, and referrals for physical therapy, diagnostic studies, surgeries, and other treatments. - 10%
• Collaborates with physicians to develop specific musculoskeletal and concussion care plans for each patient, including academic and physical recommendations, and assists with minor surgical procedures. - 10%
• Performs point-of-care testing and orders diagnostic tests or follow-up care under supervision. - 5%
• Provides post-operative care, discusses follow-up, performs evaluations, and educates patients before discharge. - 5%
• Triages patient messages and calls, communicates with referring providers, manages referrals, and responds to patient care issues. - 5%
• Performs other duties as assigned. - 5%

Minimum Requirements

Masters Degree in Athletic Training

At least 1 year as a Certified Athletic Trainer

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

Completion of accredited Athletic Training Residency Program

South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate

CPR Certification

NBCOT OTC (Orthopaedic Technologist)
