The Clinical Athletic Trainer will work under the direction of the Practitioner and support their documentation of patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Duties are to be performed in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations governing the legal scope of medical practice. They will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of patients and for providing a positive, supportive environment for patients and staff while working with physicians, advanced practitioners, front office, and clinical staff.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrate competency in orthopedic assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development, and communication appropriate to the patient's age.
  2. Collaborate with the attending physician to provide quality patient care within the Athletic Trainer's scope of practice.
  3. Perform clinical intake, including vital signs, allergies, medical/surgical history, and medications.
  4. Obtain a thorough history, including chief complaint, pain score, mechanism of injury, and review of systems.
  5. Perform orthopedic physical examinations and present cases to the attending physician, including interpretation of imaging studies under supervision.
  6. Remove sutures/staples, drains, perform basic wound care, and apply dressings as directed.
  7. Assist with in-office injections, surgical consent paperwork, and procedure documentation.
  8. Scribe provider documentation following guidelines for documentation and billing.
  9. Maintain complete, thorough, and timely patient care records, completing documentation in real time.
  10. Enter provider orders into EMR accurately as instructed.
  11. Provide and review after-visit patient education as directed.
  12. Perform gait training and patient education regarding rehabilitation exercises.
  13. Apply and remove casts/splints as directed.
  14. Apply, instruct, and dispense DME per provider orders.
  15. Cross-utilize as second assistant in the operating room, performing sterile and non-sterile tasks as a Certified Orthopedic Technologist (OTC) and/or BCS-O, following department privileges.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. Uses fingers for patient care and data entry into EMR. Routinely uses upper extremities. Occasionally lifts up to 25 pounds, pushes carts up to 30 pounds, and wheelchair with patients up to 325 pounds. Regularly stoops, bends, and reaches above shoulder level. Hearing is required for conversations and blood pressure readings. Vision requirements include general, near, and peripheral vision.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training (required); Master's Degree (preferred). Graduate of a CAATE-accredited athletic training program. Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).

Training and Experience:

Current ATC certification. State licensure by the Board of Medicine in PA and NJ. BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification. Basic computer skills.
