Position Summary

The Clinical Associate Physician is a non-faculty physician member of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine. The Clinical Associate Physician provides high-quality emergency medical care to patients at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center and supports the mission, values, and clinical standards of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Care

Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting to the Emergency Department with acute illnesses, injuries, and emergencies. Provide timely, evidence-based medical care consistent with departmental standards and granted clinical privileges. Perform emergency procedures and interventions appropriate to training and scope of practice. Direct and participate in the resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill and injured patients. Order, interpret, and integrate diagnostic studies into patient management plans. Coordinate care with consulting services, nursing staff, advanced practice providers, and ancillary departments. Facilitate safe and efficient patient dispositions, including admission, transfer, observation, and discharge. Conduct medical screening examinations and provide emergency medical treatment in accordance with EMTALA requirements. Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation.

Professional Responsibilities

Maintain current knowledge of emergency medicine standards and best practices. Participate in quality assurance, peer review, patient safety, and performance improvement activities. Attend required departmental meetings and educational activities. Serve on departmental or hospital committees as requested. Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and members of the healthcare team. Maintain compliance with all Johns Hopkins Medicine, School of Medicine, hospital, and medical staff policies. Maintain required licensure, certifications, credentialing, and continuing medical education requirements. Participate in a fair and equitable physician schedule, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Required

MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency program. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine. Eligible for unrestricted Maryland medical licensure. DEA registration and CDS licensure, or ability to obtain prior to employment. Eligible for appointment to the Medical Staff and granting of clinical privileges at Howard County Medical Center. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, or ability to obtain prior to start date.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during clinical shifts. Ability to perform emergency procedures requiring manual dexterity. Ability to respond effectively during emergency situations. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to safely evaluate and treat patients.
