SBU is seeking candidates for Principal Faculty in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies Program. This can be a tenure-track or clinical appointment at the assistant or associate level, based on experience.
The Physician Assistant Faculty will enjoy many opportunities for inter-professional education as the other members of the School of Health Professions Team become established. These will include Health Sciences, Public Health, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies. The faculty member will teach classes in accordance with the schedule of classes and following the approved course descriptions and curricular guidelines. On teaching assignments will include instructional development; academic advising and assisting students; participating in Departmental and University-wide activities; serving on committees and task forces; and other appropriate responsibilities as described in the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook.Key Responsibilities will include:
Instructional:
• Teaching, including the preparation of course syllabi and classes, the preparation and grading of examinations/evaluations, the supervision of laboratories and other practica, and the direction of student driven research projects.
Academic Advising:
• Meet with students as needed by appointment.
• Advise and assist students as determined by program requirements.
• Maintain general knowledge of degree requirements for graduation from the Physician Assistant Program
Institutional Service:
• Participation in activities (usually through committee work) designed to advance the mission and quality of the University, School, and Departmental programs, including admissions, curriculum and program evaluation. Assignments to routine committee work will be made in consideration of other demands placed on the faculty member by the University.
• Attendance at Department, School, and general Faculty and University meetings including commencements, convocations, and other official University exercises.
Professional Growth and Development:
• Maintain NYS licensure and credentialing by the appropriate certifying agency (NCCPA, etc).
• Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate disciplines
Faculty are expected to engage in the following activities, where appropriate, as part of their normal services:
