Clinical Assistant Professor, Art History – School of Art

Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University

Description

The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks a full-time (1.0 FTE) 9-month (academic year) Clinical Assistant Professor in Art History with an emphasis on Native American and Indigenous Art of any time period, beginning August 2025. The position responsibilities include teaching at least three courses each semester, undergraduate and/or graduate, online and in-person. Teaching will be on the Tempe and Phoenix campuses, along with curriculum development, student mentorship, and service.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in art history or related field, ABD accepted.
  • Demonstrated evidence of participation in professional activities relative to the expectations of the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with experience in higher education.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A secondary area of expertise that may include Museum Administration, Education, or Technology; Museum/Curatorial Practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in-person and online upper and lower division undergraduate courses using innovative pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with peers, colleagues, and professionals in academic settings.
  • Evidence of sustained student mentorship activity.
