Job summary

Urology of Virginia is looking for a Medical Assistant to support clinicians with exam room preparation, patient prep for procedures, and in-office testing. You'll perform phlebotomy, label specimens, and run CLIA-waived labs alongside a compassionate, patient-first team.

Responsibilities include EMR documentation, patient education, and handling triage calls while maintaining safety and accuracy in a fast-paced urology setting in Suffolk, VA.

Qualifications

• Certification as Medical Assistant or equivalent.
• Completed program in medical assisting or nursing-related field.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Ensure exam rooms are prepared, cleaned, and stocked for patients and between visits.
• Prepare patients for in-office procedures and assist providers during exams and tests.
• Perform phlebotomy, bladder scans, catheter changes, and related tasks as needed.
• Collect and label lab specimens such as blood, urine, and biopsy tissue.
• Conduct CLIA-waived lab testing following policies of UVA and the practice.
• Use PPE properly and follow safe handling and disposal protocols.
• Provide patient education on self-care, pre-op instructions, and post-op care.
• Document patient information in EMR, including calls, appointments, lab results, orders.
• Handle patient triage calls for prescriptions, scheduling, and care assistance.
• Obtain authorizations and pre-certifications for treatments, exams, and prescriptions.
