Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Florida's Treasure Coast is seeking a Clinical Assistant to support the Cardiology Practice. You will assist LPNs, RNs, and other staff to deliver exceptional patient care, with access to state-of-the-art technology and ongoing professional development opportunities.

The role provides introduction to the Cleveland Clinic enterprise, focusing on safe patient care, accurate nursing documentation, medication administration, and participation in pain

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Knowledge of Infection Control Practices.
• Computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care to patients as appropriate.
• Provide accurate medication administration and nursing documentation such as medical records, authorization forms and laboratory requisitions.
• Implement pain management assessments and documentation.
• Recognize changes in patient status and report pertinent information to Charge Nurse or Physicians.
• Recognize and follow through with nursing intervention.
• Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files at all times.
• Perform patient teaching as needed under the supervision of RN/Physician.
• Adhere to the National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by JCAHO.
• Follow Code Blue protocol as per clinic policy.

The Section of Clinical Cardiology is often times the area where patients first have access to specialized inpatient and outpatient heart care and long-term management of their conditions. We offer the latest innovations in cardiac care and clinical therapies to patients of all ages. We provide state-of-the-art tests and procedures to help make an accurate diagnosis and create a treatment plan. We see patients with very common heart problems, such as angina, artery problems, valvular heart disease, and heart failure. We also treat patients with some very rare forms of heart disease, including those who have been told by other doctors that their condition cannot be treated.

As a Clinical Assistant at Indian River Hospital’s Cardiology Practice, you will assist your fellow LPNs, RNs and other healthcare staff in providing exceptional patient support and attention. A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program
• Current Florida licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Knowledge of Infection Control Practices
• Computer literacy

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• One year of clinical experience
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross
• IV certification

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good hand-eye coordination, involves extensive standing walking and occasional lifting.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
• Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
