Job summary

Children's of Alabama in Birmingham, AL, seeks a patient care assistant for the Critical Care Cardiac Care Unit on the Main Campus Harbert Tower. This part-time role offers Evening/Night shifts 7p-7a, with 2-12 hour shifts per week, Monday through Sunday.

Under supervision of RNs and LPNs, you will provide assistive care and communication for patients, staff, and visitors in a 16-bed pediatric telemetry unit.

Qualifications

• Six months of patient care experience within the last two years.
• Enrolled in a medical related college program and in clinical rotation.
• CNA, CMA, PCT or EMT certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and communication for patients, staff, and visitors.
• Work under supervision of RNs and LPNs.
• Support pediatric cardiac telemetry unit with close monitoring.

Candidate qualifications

• 1 Year job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Patient Care Support or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Certified Medical Assistant AAMA
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
  • Certified Medical Assistant ARMA
  • Certified Patient Care Technician
  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician ADPH

The Cardiac Care Unit is a 16 bed step-down telemetry unit that provides care for pediatric patients that require close monitoring for conditions such as: congenital or acquired heart disease; pre and/or post-operative care of patients with congenital or acquired heart disease; dysrhythmias; cardiomyopathy; pre and post-operative care of cardiac transplants; ventricular assist devices (VAD); and administration of continuous low dose vasoactive/inotropic infusions.
