SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in New York City is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor (12 Months) to lead teaching and program development in the College of Nursing. The role includes directing clinical and simulation experiences, supervising students, and advancing scholarly activity.

The successful candidate will mentor students, coordinate assessments, and contribute to research efforts culminating in publications.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • New York State Nurse Practitioner and/or Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • 4+ years of teaching experience in academia.
  • 3-5 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of current scholarship.
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the College's philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through expert teaching.
  • Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching assignments.
  • Use innovative, active learning strategies in the classroom and beyond.
  • Plan clinical and simulation experiences and provide direct supervision and evaluation of students delivering nursing care.
  • Serve as Academic Advisor for students.
  • Evaluate and provide documented feedback on student performance.
  • Grade homework, quizzes, tests, lab assignments, clinical paperwork and other written work in a timely manner.
  • Be available for remediation of students as required or needed.
  • Orient and maintain current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies and procedures.
  • Direct research of students working for advanced academic degrees.
  • Mentor students in evidence-based research and scholarship.
  • Conduct research and publish findings in professional journals.
  • Develop a program of research.
