Job summary

Alcon is seeking a Clinical Applications Specialist in San Diego, CA to provide technical and clinical training for our cataract and refractive surgical products. This role involves in-person and virtual training, partnership with Field Service and Sales teams, and ensuring adherence to SOPs and compliance guidelines.

You will drive process improvements, deliver post-sales installation training, and manage documentation of site visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs).
• Must be able to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in clinical applications or training are preferred.

As a Clinical Applications Specialist supporting Alcon’s Sales & Sales Support function you will be primarily responsible for training customers on the safe and effective use of Alcon products to ensure optimal patient outcomes. You will drive operational excellence through process improvement and knowledge sharing, ensuring all trial deliverables meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards in the San Diego, CA area.

• Provides technical and clinical training, both in-person and virtually, to maximize product utilization, upgrade opportunities, growth, and adoption of approved Alcon products


• Expected to proactively and strategically align their assigned territory's clinical training needs with commercial business goals through collaborative Strategic Account Management principles


• Excellent Presentation Skills - Interacts closely with physicians, nurses, Operating Room and clinical staff to increase product and procedural knowledge and satisfaction with the application and approved use of Alcon’s Cataract and / or Refractive Surgical products


• Ensure successful installation and adoption of all equipment and software upgrades at clinical sites for all relevant devices


• Work in partnership with the Field Service team and Sales Reps to ensure clinical training is scheduled for new installations and to meet the customers’ needs for ongoing surgical support


• Provide clear and accurate documentation of each site visit via a standardized reporting mechanism (CRM Tool) within 48 hours of completion of the visit


• Address reports of product problems and adverse events with Medical Safety. These reports may require root cause analysis and requests for feedback/input from physicians


• Collaborate as One-Team with cross-functional associates including but not limited to FSEs, Commercial Team, Service Ops and Clinical Team to support customers on new installations, site support and troubleshooting pre and post install with Calibration Calls


• Deliver post-sales installation training and customer retention / adoption activities


• Attend and assist / support with convention demonstrations, Medical Congresses, fellowships, conferences, exhibits, seminars, and wet-labs as requested and deemed appropriate by management per SOPs


• Respond to unsolicited requests for information related to Alcon medical devices, per SOPs and Ethics and Compliance Guidelines


• Provide constant feedback to R&D via approved communication plan on clinical performance of products


• Achieve clinical certifications to meet requirements and scope of responsibilities


• Refer inquiries related to unapproved uses of technologies to appropriate individuals


• Cross-training on Alcon products to support evolving business needs


• Timely completion of various administrative duties, such as expense reporting, Veeva assignments, CAS Dashboard review and data integrity compliance, etc.
