Job SummaryThe Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Clinical Administrator I to provide leadership and oversight for a broad range of departmental administrative and operational functions. Reporting to the Department Administrator, this position serves as a key partner in supporting the department’s clinical, educational, and research missions.
Working collaboratively with departmental leadership, the Clinical Administrator I assists with the development and implementation of operational programs, policies, and strategic initiatives that promote organizational effectiveness and support departmental goals. The position is responsible for financial administration and operational oversight, including budget monitoring, financial reporting, purchasing, payroll, and compliance with university and UK HealthCare policies and procedures.
The Clinical Administrator I provides leadership and supervision for administrative staff and oversees human resources activities including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and staff development. The position also leads faculty affairs activities, including faculty recruitment, appointments, onboarding, credentialing, licensure, privileging, productivity administration, promotion and tenure processes, and other faculty-related administrative matters.
Additional responsibilities include oversight of departmental fellowship and medical student program administration, coordination of departmental philanthropy and marketing activities, and management of departmental facilities, equipment, and space utilization. The position serves as a key liaison among faculty, staff, trainees, the College of Medicine, UK HealthCare and external partners to promote effective communication, collaboration, compliance, and operational excellence. Based on departmental needs, the Clinical Administrator I may represent the department on behalf of the Department Administrator and assist in advancing strategic initiatives and special projects.
