Job Summary

Greets, instructs, directs, and schedules patients and visitors. Acts as a liaison between patients and medical support staff. Assists with various clinic duties such as verifying insurance benefits, handling referrals, collecting payments, and preparing cash for deposits.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains patient check-in flow, verifies demographic and insurance info, and updates the computer database ensuring accuracy.
  • Answers phones, takes messages, and assists with inquiries from patients and staff.
  • Responds promptly to CBO requests for patient account corrections or maintenance.
  • Schedules patient appointments following physician guidelines.
  • Collects payments at the time of service, including prior balances and payment plans as needed.
Additional Duties
  • Checks in patients, verifies and updates medical records, and assists with completing necessary forms.
  • Schedules appointments according to clinician templates and office policies.
  • Assists front office with administrative tasks, including handling denials, work queues, and correcting errors for clean claims.
  • Screens visitors and responds to routine information requests.
  • Adheres to CHRISTUS Health HIPAA guidelines to protect PHI and maintains confidentiality.
  • Uses effective oral and written communication aligned with CHRISTUS Mission.
  • Follows policies related to quality, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
  • Performs responsibilities consistent with CHRISTUS Mission, Ethics, and cultural diversity objectives.
  • Supports CHRISTUS Service Guarantee and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of managed care preferred.
  • Proficient in operating a 10-key calculator, telephone, computer, copier, and fax.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and math skills.
  • Some college education preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Advanced ICD9 and CPT coding skills preferred.
  • Experience with charge posting or collections preferred.
