Job summary

DaMar Staffing seeks a skilled health information coder to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, ICD-10-PCS codes to patient encounters following established guidelines.

The role involves reviewing medical records with CDI staff to improve documentation specificity and serving as a resource to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. You will also assist with retrospective audits and handle inpatient/outpatient coding as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Management or equivalent coding experience.
• Five years medical record coding experience.
• Credentialed in Health Information Management: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CPC, COC, or CIC.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, ICD-10-PCS codes to patient encounters per guidelines.
• Review medical records on nursing units with CDI staff to improve documentation specificity.
• Educate Medical Staff to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Assist with retrospective audits to validate concurrent processes and identify improvement opportunities.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Ability to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, ICD-10-PCS codes to applicable patient encountersaccording to established guidelines.
• Review patients' medical records on the nursing units, and work closely with the CDI staff to promote specificity in physician documentation.
• Serves as educational/informational resource to the Medical Staff, as needed to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Assist with auditing records retrospectively to validate accuracy of concurrent process and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Assigns inpatient and outpatient hospital coding as well as all other assignments given by supervisors as needed.

QualificationsEducation

• Associate degree in Health Information Management OR graduate of an approved coding course OR equivalent coding experience.

Experience

• Five (5) years medical record coding experience.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

• Credentialed in Health Information Management as an RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CPC, COC, CIC
