Medical Assistant Certified Job Description

The Medical Assistant Certified provides team-based patient care as directed by the Provider and according to standard plans of care appropriate to the patient's condition, needs, and/or age. Working under close supervision, this role supports nursing, lab, clerical, and Physician staff to facilitate positive patient outcomes and care.

Responsibilities include:

1. Assisting in the collection of patient data, including biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors.
2. Entering data such as vital signs and implementing the plan of care as directed by the Provider.
3. Implementing protocols/standing orders based on patient complaints or reasons for visits.
4. Performing 12-lead EKGs, select respiratory care procedures, and other assigned patient care tasks for which adequate training and demonstrated competencies are available.
5. Administering oral and parenteral medications, including immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin tests, and treatments, following policies and standards under physician supervision.
6. Completing prior authorizations for medications and communicating prescriptions to pharmacies.
7. Overseeing appointment bookings, prioritizing emergency cases, and maintaining patient flow.
8. Documenting all procedures accurately and timely in the medical record.
9. Obtaining necessary prior authorizations or pre-certifications for patient safety compliance.
10. Communicating patient conditions, questions, and concerns to nursing staff and physicians for appropriate triage and response.
11. Performing additional duties as assigned.

Education

• Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Preferred: Medical Assistant Program

Experience

• Required: None
• Preferred: Completion of a medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience

Licensure/Certification

• Required: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from recognized bodies such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NHCWA, NAHP, NRMA, or AMCA. BLS (CPR) certification from American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
• Participation in clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and passing a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within 90 days of hire (up to 3 attempts).
