Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Wixom, MI is seeking a Climbing Arborist Trainee to join our outdoor tree care team. You will learn climbing, pruning and removal techniques while working safely on tree crews.

No prior experience required; paid training provided. Opportunities for advancement, industry-leading safety training, and a path to professional arborist credentials.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights.
• Ability to complete Davey Tree Orientation Program on hire.
• Ability to complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving on hire.
• Licenses/certificates for pesticides as required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and become part of a tree crew.
• Learn to perform tree pruning and removal safely and skillfully.
• Identify trees and follow pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood in canopies.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
• Operate tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
