Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Monroe, MI is seeking a Climbing Arborist Trainee to join our outdoor-focused team. Your office is outside, and you will learn to climb trees, prune and remove limbs, and perform tree health tasks as part of a crew.

You’ll receive paid training, safety gear, and opportunities for advancement while working on-site across our network. No prior climbing experience required; you will be guided by industry professionals and supported by a robust benefits package.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights (preferred).
• Ability to complete orientation and safety trainings on hire.
• Pesticide licenses or certificates preferred where required by law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and work as part of a tree crew.
• Learn and perform pruning and removal tasks safely and skillfully.
• Identify trees and apply industry pruning guidelines.
• Assist in installing cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment safely.
• Grow skills and responsibilities according to performance.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
