Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a dynamic Climbing Arborist Trainee to join our outdoor-focused team in Canton Township, MI. Your office is the treetop and your daily work improves client safety and tree health while learning essential pruning, removal, and rigging skills.

As part of a nationwide employee-owned firm, you’ll receive comprehensive safety training, PPE, and opportunities for advancement as you gain climbing experience and industry certifications.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors and willingness to learn climbing.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping or working at heights preferred.
• Ability to complete Davey Tree Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred: pesticides licenses/certificates as required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and operate as a member of a tree crew.
• Learn to perform pruning and removal tasks safely and skillfully.
• Learn installation of cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
• Maintain tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications
