The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking an enthusiastic Arborist Trainee to join our on-site team in Auburn Hills, MI. You’ll learn climbing, pruning, and tree care, advancing with safety training and hands-on experience around other tree care professionals.

Responsibilities include working with a crew, learning industry pruning guidelines, and assisting in installing support systems while maintaining equipment and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights preferred.
• Ability to complete Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program on hire.
• Ability to complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving on hire.
• Preferred licenses/certificates related to pesticides if required by state law.

• Operate as a member of a tree crew while learning new skills.
• Perform pruning and removal tasks according to industry guidelines.
• Assist in installing cables, bracing, and lightning protection.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications
