Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Gaithersburg, MD is seeking a Climbing Arborist to trim, prune, and remove trees for residential, utility and commercial clients. Your office is outdoors with progressive greenspace stewardship and hands-on training.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors and physical work.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping or heights work preferred.
• Must complete Davey Tree orientation and safety courses on hire.
• First Aid/CPR and defensive driving training on hire.
• Licenses or certificates related to pesticide work may be required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Trim and prune trees and remove diseased or dying limbs.
• Climb as part of the crew using listed climbing systems (DdRT/MRS or SRT/SRS).
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely (chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts).
• Work with ground crew and crew leader to execute pruning and removal tasks.
• Follow safety protocols for removal of hazardous trees and supporting structures.

Position Overview

Trim and remove trees, remove unwanted, diseased or dying limbs on trees, or to affect the health and safety of trees or surrounding areas by performing the following duties.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Climb Trees! Davey offers both DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS climbing systems.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and crew leader.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.
• Including but not limited to:
• Pruning, thinning and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems
• Removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Seeking:

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
