Job summary

MSCI is seeking a Risk & Resilience Modeler to advance loss and resilience models translating physical climate hazards into financial impact metrics for buildings and infrastructure globally. You will work with scientists, engineers, and data experts to translate exposure to hazards like flood, wildfire, and wind into damage, cost, downtime and broader economic effects.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. preferred or Master’s with 3-5+ years in structural/civil engineering, resilience or risk modeling.
  • Hands-on experience developing risk, vulnerability, or loss models for buildings/infrastructure.
  • Experience with multi-hazard and catastrophe risk data and exposure datasets.
  • Strong Python and data-science tooling for modeling, calibration, validation and uncertainty quantification.
  • Proven ability to translate physical processes into robust analytical models.

Responsibilities

  • Connect physical climate risk to financial risk by developing loss models for buildings and infrastructure globally.
  • Model damage, recovery, and economic impacts using engineering, cost estimation, statistics, and ML techniques.
  • Turn imperfect data into actionable models with data quality assessments and robust methodologies.
  • Validate model performance and quantify uncertainty to ensure scientifically rigorous outputs.
  • Translate research into scalable modeling approaches by incorporating literature and standards.
  • Characterize the global built environment to inform vulnerability and loss model development.
  • Model the value of resilience and adaptation through scenario analysis and ROI evaluation.
