Job summary

The Allen Institute for AI in Seattle is seeking a Research Engineer to advance NeuralGCM+ for climate modeling with AI. You will join a tight team to adapt training pipelines for cloud and GPUs, document code, and contribute to open-source development.

We expect 2–4 years in ML, fluency in Python, strong communication, and a relevant B.Sc. A Ph.D. is a bonus. This on-site role is grant‑funded through 2029.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience building and deploying a relevant ML application.
• Fluent in Python and collaborative coding practices.
• Experience developing ML training code for cloud computing environments.
• Demonstrated excellent communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Adapt the NeuralGCM training pipeline to run efficiently on Google Cloud resources and GPUs.
• Document the training pipeline and distribute code on a GitHub repo.
• Implement and test coupling of NeuralGCM with an ML ocean model.
• Engage in open-source development with daily meetings, reviews, and collaboration.
• Develop and present tutorials on NeuralGCM+ to user groups.
