Job summary

Ai2 in Seattle seeks a Young Investigator for a three-year project to develop an AI-first climate model that leverages historical data to improve multidecadal forecasts. You will lead design and evaluation of NeuralGCM+ training, collaborate with a small team, couple to an ML ocean model, and explore novel applications while mentoring interns.

The role requires a PhD and strong Python/ML skills; on-site work from our Seattle office is expected, with a supportive, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience building and deploying ML applications in research or academic settings.
• Fluent in Python and collaborative coding practices.
• PhD with at least one accepted ML conference paper or peer-reviewed publication.

Responsibilities

• Plan and evaluate NeuralGCM+ training and testing cases using historical data and physics-based model outputs.
• Conceive and implement model improvements to improve generalizability to unseen climates.
• Present results at AI and climate modeling venues and in peer‑reviewed publications.
• Open-source code development and collaboration with external partners; mentor interns as appropriate.
