Job summary

Eurocities is seeking an intern for their Climate & Environment team in Town of Belgium, starting mid-August 2026 for 6 months. Eurocities, the network of major European cities, is opening an internship opportunity in the field of Climate & Environment.

We are looking for a motivated and proactive intern to join our Climate & Environment team as of mid-August 2026 for a duration of 6 months.

Eurocities is a dynamic and international team where we help people thrive in a friendly, open, and healthy environment. This opportunity is reserved for students eligible for the Erasmus+ grant or other grants and depends on a successful application to the grant scheme. Responsibilities

The selected candidate will have a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in European policy‑making, urban affairs, and stakeholder engagement within a dynamic network of major European cities.

You will work as part of the climate & environment team at the Eurocities Brussels office.

In this role, you will:
  • Support advocacy on climate policies, in particular related to climate adaptation, resilience and preparedness, in view of the upcoming Climate Resilience and Risk Management Framework the Commission will present by the end of 2026. The intern could also support on other policy priorities as relevant (such as energy, climate mitigation, circular economy, nature etc).
  • Assist in preparing briefings, policy papers, and communication materials
  • Help organize meetings, including internal working group meetings, events, and communication campaigns
  • Attend relevant meetings and events in Brussels, and reporting back
  • Contribute to internal coordination (team newsletter, sharing information with members, etc.)

Profile

You are a student full of initiative, self‑driven, curious, creative, flexible, and results oriented. You are eager to take ownership of tasks and contribute meaningfully to your team’s goals.

The skills and experience to do this job successfully include:
  • You must be enrolled as a Bachelor or Master student from a University, Business School or equivalent during the entire internship. In the related fields of political science, urban planning, climate, environmental management, EU affairs, law, economics or any related field.
  • To be considered the internship must be arranged through a direct agreement with your university. You must have a funding option such as a university bursary or an Erasmus+ grant.
  • Possesses excellent communication and writing skills in English (other languages are a plus)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, plus familiarity with (tools needed like Excel, Adobe, etc.) is highly beneficial.
  • A proactive team player with a broad knowledge, or an interest in, climate policies, climate resilience, and work in the EU context.
  • Has a strong interest in EU policy, urban development, and sustainability
  • Is organised, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently
  • Has a collaborative mindset and is eager to learn
Assets:
  • Academic or working level knowledge of adaptation and resilience policies (local, national or European)
  • Familiarity with EU institutions, policies, and processes.
  • Any additional skills relevant to the position.
