Job summary

Cornell University in Ithaca, NY is seeking a Programmer Analyst III in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences to transform satellite, in situ, radar, and paleoclimate data into regionally tailored products. You will work with NOAA-related tasks and collaborate with scientists to address regional climate information needs.

The role is a full-time, one-year term appointment funded by NOAA contracts and grants, with opportunities to travel for collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, climatology, computer science, information science, data science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Proficiency in web development.
  • Experience with working within situ and gridded climatological datasets.
  • Familiarity with federal and regional climate data sources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coding support to identify user needs for climate-related decisions.
  • Develop, test, and sustain tools, products, and services meeting user requirements.
  • Transition tools, products, and services to operational states.
  • Sustain ongoing NRCC activities.
