Job description

Overview

UCAR Visiting Scientist Programs seeks a postdoctoral research scientist to study climate variations in the Intra-Americas Seas (IAS) and their influence on climate extremes using global high-resolution coupled models. Research areas include climate variability, predictability and attribution. This is a new, full-time, two-year appointment, renewable for a third year, located at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory Climate Variability and Predictability Group in Princeton, New Jersey.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze high-resolution coupled climate simulations (including comparison to observed data).
  • Design and execute perturbation experiments with high-resolution climate models.
  • Assess initialized predictions with high-resolution climate models.
  • Document results in scientific publications, present results in seminars and at conferences, and pursue outside activities that advance professional growth (e.g., educational programs, serving on committees, attending workshops).
Preferred qualifications
  • Strong background in research on climate dynamics or a closely related field.
  • Experience using and analyzing state of the art climate models.
  • Strong diagnostic skills in analyzing large data sets.
  • Ability to work independently and conduct research with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

This is a new, full time two-year term position with the possibility of extension. THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY. Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in atmospheric sciences, oceanography or a closely related field.
