City of Largo is seeking a clerical worker responsible for greeting the public, handling inquiries, processing documents, and maintaining records. The role requires independent judgment and understanding of office procedures.
The position includes supporting multiple departments, preparing notices and reports, and performing data entry and basic accounting tasks. The successful candidate will be reliable, accurate, and able to work with minimal supervision.
This is clerical work requiring the application of varying degrees of independent judgment and specialized clerical knowledge. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through observation of operations and review of work performed. Employees in this classification may be subject to shift assignments.
Greets the public, screens and directs visitors, answers questions, takes complaints, receives payments and takes customer orders; explains departmental rules and regulations; screens and refers office calls to proper person or department; assists other City workers with information requests and can create reports to assist other offices or personnel independently or by request.
Processes documents and applications requiring procedural knowledge; reviews documents for sufficiency, obtaining necessary signatures, routing appropriately, and maintaining follow‑up. Prepares public notices. Performs various account‑keeping functions.
Inputs and retrieves data from the computer. Types requisitions, letters, memoranda, financial and statistical reports, statements, and other materials from copy, rough draft, or oral instructions. Performs research and creates specialized report documents utilised by the department.
Sorts and files correspondence, reports, and other materials numerically, alphabetically, or by other established procedures. Opens, sorts, and distributes mail. Makes final checks of documents for proper coding, classification and mathematical accuracy.
Maintains files and records, performs research, and processes necessary reports. Takes minutes of conferences and other meetings. Prepares reports, narrative, and statistical tabulations; operates office machinery such as calculator, typewriter, word processor, copier, computer, etc. Makes mail deposits.
May type from shorthand notes, dictating equipment, hand‑written copy, or general instructions.
May conduct searches, issue licenses or permits, etc.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to meet and deal courteously with the general public. Knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic, and of office practices and procedures. Ability to handle multiple office functions. Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion with minimum instruction. Ability to maintain complex records, and to make reports requiring extreme accuracy. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and general public. Ability to input, access, and retrieve data from a computer.
