Job Description

This is a full-time, 38 hours per week, phlebotomy position located at a client site in St. Charles.

Must be able to work Monday through Thursday 9am - 5pm; Friday 9am - 1pm; Saturday 8:30am - 12pm.

The Phlebotomist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Phlebotomist provides expert phlebotomy services with excellent customer service and communication skills. The phlebotomist must work effectively as part of a team that prioritizes “Patients First”.

Responsibilities include venipuncture collection, specimen processing, order entry, verification of test results, patient info retrieval, and clerical duties.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform phlebotomy and lab specimen collections following age-specific standards and departmental protocols.
  2. Demonstrate AIDET model and ensure patient safety to minimize errors.
  3. Review physician orders, ensure completeness, and enter accurate lab test orders.
  4. Communicate with patients and provide appropriate post-phlebotomy care.
  5. Process specimens promptly to maintain sample integrity, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging.
  6. Monitor refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records, report issues, and document findings.
  7. Operate and maintain relevant equipment, follow up on pending orders, and communicate results or issues.
  8. Notify laboratory or physicians of specimen procurement problems.
  9. Maintain a safe work environment, adhere to biohazard waste procedures, and ensure proper waste handling.
  10. Perform clerical tasks such as order entry, result verification, patient info retrieval, and inventory management.
  11. Use department resources efficiently, contribute to cost reduction, and streamline processes.
  12. Complete continuing education and competency assessments.
  13. Promote teamwork and assist colleagues professionally.
  14. Apply critical thinking and sound judgment in problem-solving.
  15. Follow organizational policies on ethical practices.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from a recognized organization, training from a medical institution, or one or more years of healthcare phlebotomy experience or CMA certification.

Preferred:

  • Experience with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with lab specimen processing, transferring, and centrifuge handling.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
