Description

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, phlebotomy position located at a client site in Highland Park, IL.

Must be able to work Monday through Friday 8am - 4:30pm.

The Phlebotomist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Phlebotomist provides expert phlebotomy services and must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills. The phlebotomist must have the ability to function as part of a highly effective team that consistently puts “Patients First”.

The Phlebotomist is responsible for venipuncture collection and specimen processing. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to order entry in multiple systems, verification of test result receipt, patient information retrieval, and lab reception/clerical duties.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age-related standards and departmental policies.
  2. Demonstrates AIDET model and optimizes patient safety to reduce errors.
  3. Receives and reviews physician orders; ensures all necessary information is included for lab services.
  4. Provides post-phlebotomy patient care and communication.
  5. Processes specimens to ensure sample integrity, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging.
  6. Reviews refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records, reports concerns, and reports findings to supervisors.
  7. Operates and maintains relevant equipment, follows up on outstanding orders, and communicates results and issues appropriately.
  8. Maintains a safe work environment, adhering to biohazard waste procedures and proper storage.
  9. Performs clerical duties such as order entry, result verification, patient info retrieval, and inventory management.
  10. Uses resources efficiently, participates in cost-reduction and process improvements.
  11. Completes continuing education and competency assessments.
  12. Demonstrates teamwork and professional interaction.
  13. Uses critical thinking and sound judgment to resolve issues.
  14. Adheres to ethical business practices and organizational policies.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from a recognized organization, or training from a medical institution, or one year of healthcare phlebotomy experience, or CMA certification.

Preferred:

  • Experience with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience processing lab specimens and using centrifuges.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
