Job Description

  • $3,000 Sign-on Bonus
  • This is a full-time, 40-hour per week phlebotomy position. Must work Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5:30 pm, with two weekends per month. Flexibility with hours is required for earlier or later shifts. Must be comfortable driving to client sites in downtown and Northside Chicago. Base hourly rate includes float differential compensation.*
  • Internal and rehire candidates are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.*

The Client Office Phlebotomist-Float reflects NM's mission, vision, and values, adheres to the Code of Ethics and Compliance Program, and complies with all policies, procedures, and standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age-related standards.
  • Provides appropriate post-phlebotomy patient care.
  • Identifies need for medical assistance and calls code as appropriate.
  • Reviews refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records; reports concerns and findings.
  • Uses manual requisitions, labels specimens, and processes according to protocols.
  • Procures blood specimens from infants, adults, geriatrics, and wheelchair-bound patients, demonstrating competency across age groups.
  • Maintains equipment operation and maintenance knowledge.
  • Follows up on orders, communicates results, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Orders laboratory tests accurately in the system, prioritizes tasks, and maintains a low recollection rate.
  • Follows safety protocols, presents professionally, and provides timely information to patients.
  • Addresses questions, demonstrates teamwork, communicates effectively, and manages workload efficiently.
  • Participates in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
  • Ensures specimen procurement problems are communicated, provides test result follow-up, and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Adheres to safety and ethical standards, performs clerical duties related to lab specimens, and works independently when needed.
  • Travels to additional sites as required.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from a recognized organization or training, or at least one year of healthcare-based phlebotomy experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience processing lab specimens, using centrifuges, and transferring specimens.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and medical terminology.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
