Overview

The salary range for this position is $19.81 - $26.74 hourly. Placement within the range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range follows the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities
  • Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age-related standards.
  • Provides appropriate post-phlebotomy patient care.
  • Identifies need for patient medical assistance and calls code as appropriate.
  • Reviews refrigerator temperature and QC/QA records; documents findings and reports to supervisor or manager.
  • Uses manual requisitions and labels specimens appropriately; processes specimens according to established protocols and policies.
  • Procures blood specimens from infant, adult, geriatric, and wheelchair-bound patients and demonstrates competency for age-related responsibilities.
  • Understands operation and maintenance of equipment pertinent to the job.
  • Follows up on all outstanding orders and communicates draws/charges/results to client office staff; performs other duties as assigned.
  • Obtains written physician orders with required information and accurately orders laboratory tests in computer systems.
  • Prioritizes tasks and is able to multi-task.
  • Maintains a low recollection/cancellation rate and completes phlebotomy within cost targets.
  • Follows two-patient identifiers and handwashing safety goals.
  • Maintains professional demeanor and provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers.
  • Works collaboratively with coworkers and communicates effectively; respects diverse opinions and styles.
  • Uses resources efficiently and manages the work schedule to complete tasks on time.
  • Supports cost reduction, process improvements, and service growth efforts.
  • Notifies laboratory or physician of problems with specimen procurement to ensure optimal care; follows up on test results with appropriate individuals in a professional manner.
  • Continuously updates information as needed and demonstrates compliance with policies and safety standards.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to all safety requirements and hospital policies.
  • Performs clerical duties related to handling and processing lab specimens and communicates with team members to complete tasks independently.
  • Travel to additional sites when needed.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or formal training from a phlebotomy program, or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting.

Preferred:

  • Experience performing phlebotomy across a broad range of patient types.
  • Experience processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and operating a centrifuge.
  • Familiarity with medical EMR systems and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
