Job description

Job Type/Status: Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Advocate is responsible for victim services, including case management, advocacy, and crisis-counseling as well as presenting educational programs to the community. Advocates report directly to the Program Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Outreach activities to educate and engage the community.
  2. Provide crisis-intervention and counseling to victims, family members, and significant others.
  3. Accompany victims through procedures at area hospitals, police departments, prosecutor's office, and court. Provide victims with case-related medical and legal information.
  4. Collaborate with community partners in order to provide victims with the best resources and services possible.
  5. Attend community-based meetings and workshops.
  6. Present program information at health fairs, community events, and professional organizations. Assist with the promotion of program services.
  7. Provide appropriate referrals for victims.
  8. Provide coverage for our 24-hour hotline.
  9. Maintain victim case files, following state and agency guidelines.
  10. Complete monthly and quarterly statistics and reports.
  11. Assist with office procedures pertinent to the operations of the program.

REQUIREMENTS:

The Advocate must successfully complete 40 hour New Jersey State Certified Sexual Violence Advocacy Training provided by Services Empowering Rights of Victims (SERV). Advocates should have experience working with people, especially on a one-to-one basis, and demonstrate sensitivity toward the needs of victims. Effective verbal and written communication skills and public speaking are required. A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Human Services is mandatory. Work experience may substitute for education on a year-to-year basis.
