What You'll Do:
Plans, implements, and coordinates facility-wide client advocacy programs for persons who temporarily or permanently reside in state-operated residential facilities. Develops policies and procedures to promote and protect human rights; monitors and evaluates facilities' compliance with laws and accreditation standards; establishes mechanisms for resolving client advocacy issues; ensures availability of internal and external services for all clients; provides consultation, training, and technical advice to department heads, staff, and volunteers regarding advocacy laws and procedures.
Provides client advocacy services in accordance with state and federal laws and rules, explaining the availability of advocacy and clients' rights services, providing written materials to new patients, their families, and interested parties; investigating clients' advocacy problems, inquiries, and complaints related to treatment, personal needs, or environment; conducting daily rounds to check on clients; reviewing incident reports for adverse trends; ensuring clients have legal representation at hearings and that due process is followed.
Prepares reports for facility administration and central office; maintains files, records, and correspondence; responds in writing to advocacy-related correspondence.
Attends meetings related to client advocacy; collaborates with the facility's citizen's advisory board, legal rights services, and other monitoring groups; represents the facility on patient rights matters; serves as an advocacy liaison with local, state, and federal agencies; speaks before community service agencies.

Minimum Qualifications: Completion of an undergraduate program in social work or mental health technology; 12 months of experience in advocating and delivering client rights services for persons who have been abused, neglected, or diagnosed with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or behavior disorders. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
