CLERK DISPATCHER II: Operates a radio-telephone communication system in receiving and transmitting messages; dispatches men, materials and equipment in response to emergency, service and trouble calls; performs a variety of clerical work involving the preparation of reports and the maintenance of records; and performs other related duties as required.
CLERK DISPATCHER III: Supervises and participates in the operation of a radio-telephone communication system in receiving, monitoring and transmitting information and messages; dispatches people, materials and equipment in response to complaints, disturbances, emergencies, reports of crime and other requests for assistance; supervises and performs a variety of clerical work involving the preparation of reports and the maintenance of records; and provides training and performs other related duties as required.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Education Requirement: Graduation from high school, or equivalent.
General Experience Requirement:Level I: Two (2) years of progressively responsible general clerical work experience which involved the performance of a variety of clerical tasks which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, common office machines and equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly.
Level II:Two (2) years general experience as described above;
AND one (1) yearof Specialized Experience involving operating a radio telephone communication system in receiving and transmitting messages; experience must have included answering emergency and trouble calls, determining the location and nature of the problem and dispatching personnel to handle emergency service and trouble calls.
Level III:Two (2) years general experience as described above in Level I;
AND two (2) years of Specialized Experience AND;
Supervisory Aptitude:Applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision, e.g., by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; or by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
Knowledges and Abilities Required:Knowledge of:In addition to possessing the knowledges of the I level, applicants must possess the knowledge of radio-telephone communication system discipline and techniques.Ability to:In addition to possessing the abilities of the I level, applicants must possess the ability to operate radio-telephone equipment; communicate clearly and calmly with other personnel and the general public and make decisions under emergency conditions.Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
