Job summary

St. Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown, a Catholic Health member, is hiring a Clerical Assistant to join the Nursing Unit, performing clerical tasks, welcoming patients, and supporting care teams.

Requires high school diploma or GED and about 1 year healthcare office experience; duties include chart prep, orders transcription, patient discharge support, and answering phones.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a doctor’s office or healthcare facility preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of clerical functions on the Nursing Unit including, but not limited to, meeting, greeting, and orienting patients to floor.
• Answers questions from patients and/or family members or redirects to appropriate care team member for response.
• Transcribes orders; prepares patient chart on admission; ensures that chart is maintained appropriately; dismantles chart upon discharge; prepares diet and census sheets; rewrites medex once a week; prepares venipuncture list; assists in coordinating and compiling statistics as needed.
• Assists the care team with the discharge process.
• Answers telephones in a professional manner; distributes mail.

Salary Range

USD $28.70 - USD $28.70 /Hr.
