THE POSITION

Join the Department of Human Services as a Clerical Assistant 3 and support a diverse network that helps support and strengthen children and families. This role allows you to use strong organizational and communication skills in a meaningful way. You will play a key part in processing appeals and maintaining accurate records. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the ChildLine Appeals Unit by reviewing appeal requests, monitoring appeal steps, and maintaining accurate records. As a Clerical Assistant 3, you will perform the following duties:

  • Appeal Review: Examine appeal requests to determine eligibility, timeliness, and type of appeal.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Hold a strong working understanding of the Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) and the Child Protective Services Regulations.
  • Information Handling: Release information according to law and protect all confidential material.
  • Case Monitoring: Track appeal progress and update requests with new information.
  • Deadline Management: Identify and process files that have reached statutory deadlines.
  • Document Preparation: Compose and proofread letters and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Office Support: Operate office equipment and assist with data entry, filing, and scanning when needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part‑time, up to three days per week after an in‑office training period. To telework, you must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) or one year of moderately complex clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
