Clearable Engineering Operations Technician, ADC InfraOps DCEO

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) is Amazon’s front line responder for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. They provide 24/7 shift coverage, which could include 12-hour shifts, rotating shifts, 3, 4, or 5-day work weeks.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, emergency generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
  2. Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs.
  3. Perform limited maintenance tasks including filter changes, HVAC PMs, rack power installs, rack PDU, and rack ATS replacements.
  4. Support Data Center Operations technicians.
  5. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  6. Ensure all safety procedures are followed during work.
  7. Work 12-hour shifts (rotating 3 and 4-day work weeks, days or nights).
  8. Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
  9. Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory.
  10. Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
  11. Respond to emergency calls per on-call rotation for any of the region’s sites.
  12. Comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
  13. Drive innovation while reducing operational costs.
  14. Manipulate small wires and objects.
Physical Tasks:
  • Walk job sites on uneven terrain.
  • Work at heights and from ladders.
  • Lift and/or move up to 39 pounds; participate in group lifts for 40 pounds or more.
  • Bend or twist into unusual positions while working.
  • Push or pull heavy objects into position.

This position requires the candidate to be a US Citizen and to obtain and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance.

A Day in the Life

After training, support data center operations on a shift schedule, performing routine checks, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical work. Author technical procedures, work orders, and participate in advanced projects as your career progresses at AWS.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of maintenance experience on mechanical or electrical equipment in a mission-critical environment (e.g., Data Center, telecom).
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS/EPMS).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Data Center Operations experience or operating electrical/mechanical systems in mission-critical environments.
  • Knowledge of network design, low voltage cabling, and data collection/trending.
  • Experience with BMS and EPMS control systems, licenses such as DC II, DC III, Journeyman, CFC, NFPA 70E, etc.
