Job Description

Clean Harbors in Laurel, MD is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist (CleanPack Chemist CDL) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with Federal/State/Local regulations and our company policies and procedures. This position will work both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, customer sites, and is responsible for assisting with lab packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab moves. It is a customer-facing position, working at customer sites daily. The Environmental Field Chemist is NOT laboratory-based.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure health and safety by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and procedures
  • Prepare packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
  • Inspect staging, accumulating, and storage areas for proper housekeeping and compliance
  • Inspect storage drums for leaks, spills, and proper labeling
  • Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal
  • Perform jobs at customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies
  • Ensure all projects are prepared and approved before shipment, in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies
  • Conduct projects following site-specific regulations and safety plans
  • Understand customer-specific disposal restrictions and packaging requirements
  • Sample and profile new waste streams or those needing analytical testing
  • Verify drum count and condition for shipment compliance
  • Follow all local, state, and federal regulations
  • Safely operate vehicles according to DOT and local requirements
  • Observe all company safety and environmental guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Class B CDL
  • Obtain CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsement within 6 months
  • Ability to perform physical functions as required
  • Successfully pass background check, drug test, and physical
  • Meet facial hair standards if respirators are required, per OSHA
Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science
  • Experience in environmental services such as remediation, abatement, or spill response
