Department: Visitor Experience
Status: Part-Time/Non-Exempt
Reports to: Visitor Experience Manager
Summary: The Cleanliness Crew Member plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitization of The Children’s Museum of Phoenix, helping to create a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for all guests, especially young children and families. This physically active position involves extended periods of walking, standing, bending, and lifting, and requires both teamwork and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Attention to detail is essential, as the cleanliness of the museum directly impacts the visitor experience and the overall safety of the space. This is an entry-level position, ideal for individuals who take pride in their work and understand that a clean, well-maintained space is critical to the success and reputation of the museum.
Schedule
4 AM until 8 AM (4 Hour Shifts)
Weekends and holiday hours are required. Work hours are determined by the operational demands of the museum and may be adjusted as needed to support changing schedules and priorities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, walls, and floors
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum all floor surfaces in public and staff areas
- Use proper cleaning equipment and chemicals according to safety standards
- Empty trash and recycling containers, and transport waste to disposal areas
- Clean glass, mirrors, doors, and high-touch surfaces to maintain presentation standards
- Move furniture or equipment for cleaning
- Refill supplies in restrooms and other facility stations (soap, paper products, etc.)
- Follow detailed cleaning schedules for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks
- Perform inventory checks and restock custodial closets and carts as needed
- Adhere to organizational policies for appearance, cleanliness, and safety
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper PPE usage
- Ensures all cleaning tasks are performed in strict accordance with OSHA regulations, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. Adheres to proper handling, storage, and disposal procedures for all chemicals and cleaning materials.
- General knowledge of basic cleaning procedures and techniques
- Attention to detail a must
- Ability to work quickly, effectively, and responsibly without constant direction
- Ability to interact courteously with staff and museum guests
- Working knowledge of cleaning machinery and/or open to training to obtain the knowledge
- Working knowledge of safety regulations as they apply to technical processes
- Professional and appropriate dress/demeanor (per dress code uniform)
- Must have access to the internet to access the schedule
- Must have reliable transportation
Education/Training/Experience
- High school graduate or GED in progress
- Pass Criminal Background Check & E-Verify
Language Skills: Must have good communication skills (i.e., communicate clearly and effectively in both written and spoken English). Ability to share feedback and collaborate with Visitor Experience team.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time on the floor for up to 8 hours. Must be able to see well and able to read fine print. Must be able to lift boxes and push equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
Environmental Requirements
Must be able to work in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled work area. May also be exposed to extreme weather conditions with constant ambient noise levels. Must be able to work in open area with other employees.
