Job summary

Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) in Cleveland, TX is seeking an entry‑level Cleaning Rack Operator to safely clean, test, and prepare rail tank car interiors. You will operate cleaning and monitoring equipment with on‑the‑job training, following safety and EPA regulations in an outdoor industrial setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read gauges, rulers and measuring devices accurately.
  • Demonstrated safety awareness and compliance with procedures.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Review cleaning and testing procedures prior to work and before entering tank cars.
  • Follow confined space entry procedures and safety policies.
  • Verify calibration of testing equipment for accurate readings.
  • Connect and operate high‑pressure air, steam and water hoses and cleaning rack.
  • Perform manual cleaning of tank interiors as required.
  • Operate and monitor testing equipment throughout cleaning process.
  • Ensure procedures and equipment comply with EPA regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and report safety hazards.

ULTX offers competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, along with the opportunity to be a part of a collaborative, safety-focused team that values enthusiasm, craftsmanship, professional growth and continuous improvement.Primary Responsibilities:Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:Review cleaning and testing procedures prior to performing assigned work and before entering tank carsLearn, follow, and comply with confined space entry procedures and all applicable safety policiesVerify calibration of testing equipment to ensure accurate readings, including LEL meters, oxygen content meters, pH meters, and Draeger metersConnect and operate high‑pressure air, steam, and water hoses, along with cleaning rack equipmentPerform manual cleaning of tank interiors as requiredOperate and monitor testing equipment throughout the cleaning processEnsure cleaning procedures and equipment comply with company standards and EPA regulationsMaintain a clean, organized work area and promptly report potential safety hazardsRequired Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent, or ability to pass a Combined Basic Skills Assessment TestDemonstrated job‑related computational skills and ability to read gauges, rulers, and applicable measuring devicesAbility to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as part of a teamAbility to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervisionAbility to read, interpret, and adhere to safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and other work-related documentationStrong focus on safety and quality.Ability to work any shift, including overtime, in accordance with the union contractDependable and reliable attendancePreferred Qualifications:Experience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment.Rail industry experienceTank car knowledge or experienceWork Environment & Schedule:Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environment involves regular exposure to challenging physically demanding and environmental conditions.Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditionsExposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is commonJob requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spacesMust be able to enter tank cars through 20‑inch manway openingsManual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operationPotential exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spillsMust comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocolsOn-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required.Disclaimer:The duties listed above are not intended to limit the assignment of work.
