Job summary

Block by Block is hiring a Cleaning Associate/Ambassador to work outdoors in Memphis, TN. The role focuses on keeping public spaces clean, safe, and inviting while engaging with pedestrians and providing directions as needed.

Responsibilities include litter removal, graffiti clean-up, weed pulling, and reporting via two-way radios. Training is provided, and the position requires 18+ with a HS diploma or GED and ability to work weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred but not required; we will train.
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be physically able to walk/traverse during an eight-hour shift with breaks and lunch.
• Must have a clean uniform provided
• Must be able to speak/read/write English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high level of visibility at street level and perform a wide range of outdoor cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting to provide directions or city information.
• Perform litter removal and graffiti/poster removal from streets, sidewalks, and related fixtures.
• Pull weeds at tree wells, cracks in sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
• Report safety concerns and complete daily task reports in English.

Job Title: Cleaning Associate/Ambassador (Outdoors)

Pay Range: $17.00per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Payday!)

Shift/Schedule: Full-Time, Weekends included in regular schedule, OFF Days are during the week

Valid Driver's License PREFERRED

What You'll Be Doing

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
