Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Cleaners are responsible for the cleaning, maintenance, and care of hospital rooms, corridors, and adjacent grounds. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent intrapersonal skills and time management skills. They should have attention to detail and be able to work with all levels of the organization.

Duties of a Cleaner may include the following but are not limited to:

1. Wash floors, corridors, stairs, walls, partitions, and windows from the inside or outside of buildings using mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements.
2. Collect, transport, and dispose of medical waste or spoiled linens in accordance with cleaning procedures.
3. Strip and wax floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; dust assigned areas using manual or mechanical equipment.
4. Clean and scrub all areas of lavatories and locker rooms, including sinks, urinals, toilets, showers, shower walls and drains, tile floors, and locker room areas.
5. Clean and polish furniture, metal fixtures, and equipment.
6. Remove hazardous articles from floors, furniture, and equipment and dispose of them properly.
7. Move furniture and equipment during cleaning or set up for meetings or events.
8. Change curtains and drapes and hang pictures or decorative objects.
9. Empty trash, recyclables, and waste according to schedule.
10. Assemble cleaning carts and prepare cleaning solutions per manufacturer instructions.
11. Wear protective clothing and equipment as required.
12. Check supplies and equipment, report low levels or malfunctions.
13. May be assigned to remove snow, salt walkways, clean sidewalks, yards, drives, and mow lawns.
14. May clean laboratories, clean rooms, operating rooms, or other settings requiring high cleanliness and disinfectant procedures.

Qualifications

Required: Must be physically capable of performing the tasks and communicating effectively.

Preferred: Experience in a hospital setting; excellent intrapersonal and time management skills; attention to detail; ability to work with all levels of staff.

Salary Range

The salary for this position is approximately $34,452/year, based on experience. Additional pay may include location pay and shift differentials.
