Job Summary

The Department of Facilities Management and Development at SUNY Downstate is seeking a full-time Cleaner. Cleaners perform a variety of cleaning tasks to maintain assigned areas in State buildings, grounds, and walkways. Incumbents work independently or as part of a team in settings such as offices, classrooms, hospitals, laboratories, and living or treatment areas.

Illustrative Duties

• Perform cleaning tasks in assigned areas.
• Collect and dispose of trash, recyclables, and hazardous materials following schedules and proper procedures.
• Assemble cleaning carts, prepare and dilute cleaning solutions.
• Clean floors, walls, windows, and other surfaces using appropriate equipment.
• Vacuum, strip, wax floors, and shampoo carpets.
• Clean restrooms and showers, including toilets, sinks, and drains.
• Replace light bulbs and clean fixtures and high areas using ladders.
• Polish surfaces, monitor supplies, and report maintenance issues.
• Rearrange furniture, move fixtures, and perform routine groundskeeping and laundry tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

• No formal education or experience required; must be physically capable of performing tasks and understanding instructions.

Work Schedule: Variable days, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm (Full-Time)

Salary Grade/Rank

SG-05

Salary Range

As per civil service guidelines: $34,312 - $42,565 base salary plus $4,000 location pay.
